Resistance in Lycopersicon peruvianum to Isolates of Mi Gene-Compatible Meloidogyne Populations.

Root-knot nematode resistance of F progeny of an intraspecific hybrid (Lycopersicon peruvianum var. glandulosum Acc. No. 126443 x L. peruvianum Acc. No. 270435), L. esculentum cv. Piersol (possessing resistance gene Mi), and L. esculentum cv. St. Pierre (susceptible) was compared. Resistance to 1) isolates of two Meloidogyne incognita populations artificially selected for parasitism on tomato p...

Cloning and nucleotide sequence of two S-RNases from Lycopersicon peruvianum (L.) Mill.

Self-incompatibility is one of the mechanisms that has evolved to encourage outbreeding in flowering plants (de Nettancourt, 1977). One particular type of self-incompatibility, gametophytic self-incompatibility, is found in members of Solanaceae, such as the wild tomato, Lycopersicon peruvianum (Mau et al., 1986). Gametophytic self-incompatibility in L. peruvianum is controlled by a single locu...

Organ-Specific Arabinogalactan-Proteins of Lycopersicon peruvianum (Mill) Demonstrated by Crossed Electrophoresis.

Extracts of style, petal, leaf, petiole, stem, and callus derived from stems of wild tomato (Lycopersicon peruvianum) contain characteristic sets of arabinogalactan-proteins. This is demonstrated by crossed electrophoresis in which Yariv reagent, which specifically binds to and precipitates arabinogalactan-proteins, is incorporated into the second gel.

Comparative genetics of potential prezygotic and postzygotic isolating barriers in a Lycopersicon species cross.

I compare the genetic basis of quantitative traits that potentially contribute to pre- and postzygotic isolation between the plant species Solanum lycopersicum (formerly Lycopersicon esculentum) and Solanum habrochaites (formerly Lycopersicon hirsutum), using quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping in a set of near-isogenic lines. Putative prezygotic isolating traits include flower size, flower s...

Inbreeding and interbreeding in Darwin's finches.

Studies of inbreeding and interspecific hybridization are generally pursued separately with different metrics. There is a need to integrate them because they have the common goal of seeking an understanding of the genetic and ecological basis of fitness variation in populations. We use mean expected heterozygosity as an axis of variation on which to compare the fitness of inbreeding and hybridi...
